Like many other Trekkies, I was bullied at school and browbeaten at home. In a form of escapism, we nerdy little Trekkies find stories and characters we relate to and want to be a part of. I found salvation in this crew that treated each other like family. They never got into terrible conflicts with one another, and they solved problems using logic and science. They were people we aspired to be, and a family we wanted to be a part of.
Star Trek: The Next Generation has always been my favorite TV show. I don’t remember when I started watching it, but it came out when I was 6. I watched the re-runs every weekday at 7 pm, and whenever the new episode aired during prime time. In 6th grade, I had drawn the Star Trek TNG insignia in my binder. My friend, saw it and asked if I liked Star Trek, probably liking it too. But a girl who sat across from me immediately expressed her distaste and scoffed that she hated Star Trek. What else am I to do, but close my binder and say “no.” Tragic.
Picard Season 3 was particularly exciting because everyone in the cast was supposed to appear. (Minus Wesley Crusher and Tasha Yar.) I watched it as soon as it released at midnight (sometimes at 11:25 pm!) Every episode was like a love letter to the fans. They were back at it with their solving problems using logic. I thought Jack was nothing like Wesley until, he proved himself to be just as smart and resourceful.
I discovered on Twitter that there would be an IMAX showing of the finale in 10 select US cities. Thankfully San Francisco was one of them! I had been talking to my dad about Picard and making sure he was watching it. Star Trek is one of the things he and I had in common. He was just the person to take to this event!
It was like a makeup release where I am up early, refreshing and refreshing! The website crashed terribly because there were so many fans on all at once to get tickets. After 40-50 minutes I managed to get 2 tickets to the showing at The Metreon! I wanted to explore the Metreon a lot more because I hadn’t been there since 2018. I used to go there all of the time in college back in the early 2000’s. Back then we had the Discovery Channel Store, Playstation Store, Sony Style, Where The Wild Things Are, The Night Kitchen, Virtual Bowling and Jillians. This time, I went to go check out the theater first so I knew where I was going and to see if there was a line. Well, at 2pm, there was a line already formed. I thought I better not risk it and didn’t bother getting food first. (Boy, was I hungry! The woman behind me had this delicious poke bowl that smelled so good! You bet I got myself poke afterwards!) I was in line for a little over 3 hours. It ended up being a good idea because we got the seats we wanted!
This post and posted videos will contain spoilers for the finale of Picard Season 3.
@ineedthisunicorn I was lucky enough to snag a couple of tickets to the IMAX screening of the Star Trek: Picard finale at the #Metreon in #sanfrancisco Amazing, just amazing. I have so many kind words for #TerryMatalas and the cast I grew up watching and loving. 🥰 The Enterprise D is the best ship in the fleet! These is no finer crew. And no ship more beautiful. #startrek #startrekpicard #picard #enterprise #ussenterpriseNCC1701D #startrektng #startrekthenextgeneration #picardseason3 #picards3 ♬ Star Trek – The Next Generation – Main Theme – Geek Music
I hope these QR codes will work! I will let it be a surprise as to what the filter is!
With our admission, we got free concessions as well as a free poster! Admission itself was free, but I wouldn’t have minded if I paid to be there. I will be framing the print as well as the poster I already got (which is the same image as the popcorn bag.)
One perk of the live event is that we got to watch a Q&A with the actors and Terry Matalas. It was only live at The Grove in LA and then sent to the other theaters. I was unsure if they would have it uploaded onto YouTube or Paramount Plus, so I recorded the whole thing. If I get enough interest, I will have to upload it to YouTube. Otherwise other people may have already done it.
With each episode, I found myself tearing up. Crying more and more with every episode. They really knew how to tug on a Trekkie’s heartstrings with reunions, cameos, and reveals. Episode 9 Vox, may have been my favorite. That is when I was downright screaming and sobbing. The Enterprise D was back. It was like your childhood home that was destroyed was back in your life. I kept watching the scene over and over to desensitize myself from being a blubbering mess in the theater!
Was this season fan service? Absolutely and I don’t care. I’m a fan. Serve me. I thought it was the best thing on television and Terry Matalas went above and beyond what I expected. He should be in charge of more things. He knows what he’s doing unlike other show runners. I am fully in support of Star Trek: Legacy, especially if the Next Generation stops by to come visit.
It’s hard with a cast that large, but everyone got to have their epic moment. It felt very satisfying. Deanna cannot be blamed for crashing the Enterprise in Generations! The saucer was already on its way down! The slide maneuver, picking them up I don’t know if it was her or Data, but I’d like to think it was her, saving the day. Data had his moment! I feel like I picked the perfect music with the following video. (Also check out the one I just linked, it’s not mine, so I didn’t embed it.)

Did you know the real lyric is “pope is a rock star”? Yeah, now my life is ruined. It sounds like “Go Little Rockstar”
@ineedthisunicorn With the La Forge in Geordi’s Garage of course! #startrek #startrekpicardseason3 #startrekthenextgeneration #enterprise #ussenterprise1701d #enterpriseD #picard #geordilaforge #startrektng ♬ Star Trek Picard Main Title – Jeff Russo
The ending was absolutely perfect. I had been wanting a print of a painting by Jenny Johnson, of the very last scene in All Good Things…. where the senior staff are playing poker. I think this will be the year I will finally buy the print. She *might* just be working on The Last Generation version too! I will need to have them displayed together if she does.
I actually have a lot more to say about the show, but I heard no one actually reads these.
