TikTok sold me on this vibrant, charming anime-inspired duochromatic eyeshadow palette and lip gloss collection, radiating with adorable characters and captivating shifting hues!
Indie brands have been killing it when it comes to unique concepts and superior formulas. TikTok has been a great source of discovering new small businesses, and I will be sharing what I have purchased in upcoming posts. I find that these small indie businesses put a lot of care into their products and offer stuff that aren’t available in mass market stores. With the threat of TikTok shutting down, so many small business and creators are worried for the future. It’s possible it will be sold to an American company, but just in case, I decided to make my purchases now rather than later. Plus, when I get those random TikTok Shop coupons, I have to take advantage. I save and the small businesses don’t actually lose out on the money!
Yva Expressions is inspired by anime, cosplay and gaming and encourages self-expression! The brand carries eyeshadow palettes, lashes, lip products and a vibrant blush quad. I am partial to anything that is duochromatic, holographic and iridescent, so I purchased the Magical Guardian’s Glimmer Palette and one of the Multichrome lipglosses. The whole collection is absolutely adorable! From packaging to the products itself, it’s so colorful and fun!
You can purchase them directly from the Yva Expressions website or on TikTok. (In the app, the desktop version doesn’t have the shop functionality as of writing this.)

Magical Guardian’s Glimmer Duchrome Palette, $30
This eyeshadow palette really impressed me! In the product photos, It doesn’t look duochromatic. But it is, indeed! It looks like it would have a gritty texture with glitter that gets everywhere. It does not! It’s almost a wet formula (think Colorpop SuperShock) that is smooth and has no fallout. The duochromes really shift and look different under different lighting situations. (As pictured below.)
I own quite a few duochromtic eyeshadows, but these are shades I do not already have, making this a good purchase for me! This is meant to accompany other eyeshadows, to pop a lil something extra. If I could get my act together and find out how to actually take closeup photos of my eye, I’d post what looks I have done. BUT they turn out blurry, crazy and you can’t even see my eyelid in the photos! So I will do my best to describe what I have been doing:
Currently I am experimenting with one shade each and letting it shine. I’ll use matte shadows that are in the same color family: Orange for Venus, Pinks and Mauves for Pluto and Mars, Purple for Neptune and Saturn… and then use my pinky finger to apply the Guardian shadow to the lid. I love how it looks! This is of course not the only way to wear these! But it’s a good start if you are feeling overwhelmed.
Like Colourpop Supershock, it is best applied with your fingers. I believe it’s the warmth of your body that helps “melt” it onto your lid and it applies smooth that way. I do use a small pencil brush for my inner corner. It applies more crumbly with the pencil brush but it’s the only way it will fit.
I will do my best to describe these shades, but the shift does contain a lot of colorful sparkle, you’ll pick out more colors as you look at it. I am trying to describe the main colors I see:
Venus- Coraly orange with pink, gold, and minty green flash
Pluto- Pink with minty green flash
Mars- Warm pink with magenta flash
Moon- Silvery white with light pink flash
Neptune- Red-violet with blue flash
Mercury- Peacock green with blue flash
Jupiter- Forest green with green flash
Saturn- Purple with blue flash
When you wear these out and about, the lighting is constantly changing as you move. So this really grabs attention. If you think, “oh that green flash isn’t for me,” it’s not like that all the time. That’s the magic of duo and multi-chromes It always looks different depending on the lighting and angle. These always grab attention from other people and I get compliments from other women whenever I wear any duochromes!
Multichrome Lipgloss in Supernova, $20
This is my first purchase from the brand! I chose only one gloss from the collection, even though all of them were really cool looking. I thought that Supernova, a purple, would be the most wearable.
The duochrome reminded me of the liquid lipstick from Chaotic Cosmetics but in gloss form. I swatched them below, and they’re actually different. But despite that, if you wanted to be a little extra, you could pair them! I’d love to see Yva create more shades in the future because these are so cool! They are pigmented and not lacking in the shift department!
Looking at the swatch photos, I think all of these shades look so beautiful on deep skin tones! But I understand if these shades are still a little “out there” in wearability. She created these with cosplay in mind.
In full sunlight it looks very sparkly, I allowed the photo to be blurry so you can see the shimmer.
The Chaotic Cosmetics lipstick is very different. There is an obvious difference in color and the fact that it’s a liquid lipstick that dries down. I have Yva’s Supernova swatched with Magical Hippie Crecallium’s Thornbloom. The two glosses are the same visually.
Other products
I have barely scratched the surface of what Yva has to offer! There are anime inspired eyeshadow palettes, lashes, liners, lip oils and more glosses! One product that I find special is their blush quad palette that is the answer for deep skin tones! It is very frustrating to not have shades that will work for you, this is an excellent choice for those with deep skin tones looking for a nice, vibrant blush. For me, I have fair skin, so it’s not made for me. But that’s not a problem! I am glad that this exists because there are people out there looking for it!
The eyeshadow palettes have attractive color stories that work. There’s six palettes with color stories I like! The artwork for the Noods palette is particularly cute to me! Pastel Goth and Bunny Girls might be a future purchase! Even though I seem to own plenty of purples, I like the color stories enough to add it to the collection.
Social Media, while very aggravating, is also great for discovering small, indie brands. When the algorithm finally gets you, there is so much to unearth! I had purchased from four small business on TikTok in a day and will be reviewing three of them. (One is this very post and the other is a can opener!) I am hoping that my business will eventually get picked up my the algorithm, right now I am working on my video editing skills and trying to gather an audience with similar interests.
The artist who did the illustrations is called Cesar. I couldn’t find any information to find any more of their work. I am hoping the makers of SM don’t find it infringing at all. Though to be safe, I am not typing out the full title!
If you’re looking for something unique, I suggest looking into buying from indie brands! They also make a fantastic gift because your friends probably don’t already own them! I actually think I will make another purchase from Yva Expressions because I have a few friends birthdays coming up!
