Yeah, I understand it’s the dumbest title ever. But I somehow had to fit the names of the two Jeffree Star Cosmetics orange-dominated Thirsty and Pricked palettes into the title!
Pricked comes just in time to wear with your Han Solo outfit at the corn maze or at Trader Joes buying out pumpkin spice everything! The Thirsty palette had been discontinued before, so while I was checking out with Pricked, I thought I had might as well get Thirsty to compare the two. I had been wanting it for years and I didn’t want to run to risk of it selling out again! Really, Thirsty isn’t even an orange palette, it has all of two oranges! (and I suppose two very orange based browns) It does have an amazing row of metallics and that was the deciding factor on getting it. The whole top row looks like it goes with Pricked, so I wanted to showcase both at the same time.
I love that Jeffree Star Cosmetics has color-dominated palettes. It makes collecting fun, and allows you to experiment with color! So let’s see what rainbow colors JSC has done and what is left!
Red- Blood Sugar
Orange- Pricked
Yellow- not yet!
Green- Blood Money
Blue- Blue Blood
Purple- Blood Lust
Pink- Pink Religion
Brown- Orgy
Black & White- Cremated
Yellow seems to be what’s left. If anyone can create a yellow-dominated palette that people would buy, you know Jeffree is the person to do it! Not every JSC eyeshadow palette has a single color domination. Some are just curated color stories… which is what Thirsty is! It’s a summer loving, fun sunshine, eating ice cream along the beach boardwalk kind of palette. We will be going from Summer to Fall in today’s post! It’s only appropriate since it still feels like summer in California! It’s that odd phase where it’s 95 degrees at the pumpkin patch and I’m getting heat stroke.
Thirsty, $48
Thirsty was a summer release in 2018. It didn’t immediately grab at me. When a palette has blue or green, I am immediately turned off by it. Funny because blue and aqua are my favorite colors! But not for eyeshadows. This palette has both, a sky blue an an aqua. Everything I own is an aqua or a sky blue! But I hate it on my eyes. I’ve experimented with them… a lot, enough to know it’s just not for my face. It was when I was in a Morphe store and swatched the row of metallics. I had to have this! I didn’t buy it… still pinching pennies at the time. Then it got discontinued. Oh crap.
Due to the demand, it got re-released. I am glad JSC listens! I finally bought it while purchasing Pricked, so I can compare the two… and just in case they decided to discontinue it again!
Below are shade descriptions on the Beautylish site and then my own blurb about it, (if I have one.)
Parched– Fair beige with a matte finish. This color tripped me out because I thought it wasn’t releasing any pigment. It seems to be almost exactly my skin tone. Used as a brow highlight does nothing for me, but it will for anyone else. This shade may be an advantage when I’ve gone overboard with my transition shade and need to tone it down. (I’m not complaining that it’s not light enough, I’m telling my personal experience. There are plenty of highlight shades out there for me.)
Taste Buds- Baby coral with a matte finish.
Biiitch! Flamingo pink with a matte finish. I personally call this a bright coral.
Kumquat- Bright orange with a matte finish.
Stroke- Terracotta with a matte finish
Divine- Silver with an ultra-metallic finish
Filthy Rich- Gold with an ultra-metallic finish
Lick- Topaz with an ultra-metallic finish
Snatched- Pink champagne with an ultra-metallic finish
Plunge- Copper with an ultra-metallic finish
Subtle- Medium cool-toned brown with a matte finish
Quench- Bright yellow with a matte finish
Submerge- Bright blue with a matte finish
Splash- Aquamarine with a matte finish
Drizzle- Warm chocolate brown with a matte finish. This isn’t a dark enough brown for the look I want, I find myself grabbing the Orgy palette’s Orgy shade to deepen up my look. Don’t get me wrong, a shade like this is welcome in my collection. I believe I need ALL the browns! But for that extra polished look, I need the deepest brown to define my eyes.
I think this palette is worth it just for that gorgeous row of metallics! I also do like having the warm browns and corals. I think the purple eye looks I often wear really benefit from warm transition shades. Temperature change! We’ve been over this!
You can purchase Thirsty on Beautylish.
Pricked, $55
You are probably here for Pricked because that’s the new one!
As you can see, it’s the perfect Fall palette with its range of oranges and browns. Remember when every brand came out with orange palettes a few years ago? I had gotten so many that I eventually stopped buying them because I had plenty. But then Jeffree comes out with one in 2021 and here I am! But orange is one of those colors where it doesn’t feel autumn without it! Not to mention, a bit of orange in the transition warms up a look!
A decision well made because it’s crazy pigmented. One the eyes, it looks like fire. Bright, bold, fiery oranges. If you thought that Orgy was too neutral or cool, this one will exceed in the need for warm tones! I love that there are yellow-based shades in here. I like to go for those because they blend well with my skin tone. Plus it adds more interest to an orange dominated look. Every look I have done so far looks intense and ultra-BOOM-in-your-face! I am sure you can achieve a subtle, nice look, I think this palette is just too fun to tone it down. We don’t buy JSC to look like the girl next door or office-friendly anyway!
Like Thirsty, it is missing a deep, dark brown. But that’s when I grab Orgy from the Orgy palette. That is a red-based dark brown that will go well with the Pricked palette. But I have used Deadly Intentions as the sole dark outer corner color and blended it into Slice Me Open and Double Crossed. As long as you take the time to blend, it works out just fine without the need for an outside palette.
Jeffree loves to mix the concepts of beauty and danger. The icons inside are mostly things that can stab you. The purse is very on-brand for Jeffree who has a large handbag collection. I think the handbag concept is here because it’s perhaps something that he’s been wanting to do.
Pale in Comparison: Icy frost with tangerine reflects and a duochrome finish- This is such a fun shade! You don’t see many orange duochromes out there!
Fashion Whore: Tangerine with gold reflects and a duochrome finish
Sliver of Sanity: Pastel peach with a matte finish- This yellow ochre shade is a great blending shade for me!
Cutting Edge: Muted peach with a matte finish
Vitamin C-Word: Hot orange with a matte finish- A touch of this yellow-orange that brightens up an otherwise dull shadow look
Unpeeled Pleasure: Pastel coral with a matte finish
Pulp Addiction: Peach with gold reflects with a duochrome finish
Mysterious Circumstances: Dark reddish-orange with a matte finish
Papaya Latex: Hot orange with a matte finish
Orange Fatale: Orange-red with a matte finish
Twisted Taste: Deep orange-brown with a matte finish- Terra Cotta
Thorny: Pumpkin with a matte finish- I go for this warm medium brown to deepen my crease
Forged: Neon orange with a matte finish- This Red-orange is very firey, and darker than Prick in Blood Sugar
Double Crossed: Red-toned brown with a matte finish
Unblunted: Bronze pumpkin with a metallic finish- Fun all over the lid shade, for a different take on a smokey eye
Glimmer of Hope: Icy gold with a metallic finish- This gold is super metallic and a lot of fun to work with. You can try it packed all over the lid or go subtle and lightly apply it to the center of the lid for an ethereal touch.
Slice Me Open: Dirty burgundy with a matte finish
Deadly Intentions: Pitch black with orange reflects and a metallic finish- I’ve found that blends well and have used this, when I wanted to use a dark brown, but instead chose to stick to this palette only. The look worked! Just needs a lot of attention to blending and placement.
There were also Velour Liquid Lipsticks, Supreme Glosses, Supreme Frosts and Velour Lip Scrubs. I’m not too interested in orange lip colors, but I love the lip scrubs! I would have gotten Orange Gummy Bear if my cabinet didn’t already have plenty of scrubs. (I’ll probably get it later.) I love Supreme Frosts, but I kinda of want to see them on me before buying them.
I have been combining the two palettes. I got them at the same time so it as that fresh and new interestingness! I also got Colourpop’s Hocus Pocus Gather Round Sisters Palette a couple days later so I have been mixing them!
I had to recommend a JSC palette to a friend unfamiliar with the brand. Honestly, it was hard to choose which palette. I set on Blood Sugar, but now that Pricked is out, it is also a great recommendation. I guess it depends what they gravitate toward! Orgy is also solid, but if you want to try JSC, you need to try the wilder, bolder shades and the metallic finishes! Mini Breaker is one of my favorites, but if they’re asking, they’re probably really asking about which is worth the investment… they probably want a large palette!
Showcasing my JSC palettes that contain neutral browns. Notice there are no duplicates!
I recently discovered SaraLovesMakeup on YouTube. She makes some of the best JSC videos! She gets PR packages early, so she has them to showcase before you make a decision to purchase! She also does videos to find dupes. She did the work, so I didn’t have to! haha! Check her out!
If you are interested in doing some research on all of the palettes, and the timeline of when they released, check this site out.
Disclaimer: I am not on the PR list. I purchased this palette myself with my own money.
