Celebrating Cinco de Mayo and Mexican heritage with this adorable blush palette by Metamophosis BF! This is a Latina-owned, animal themed cosmetic brand. One I discovered on TikTok of course! A spectacular place to find brands new to you!
I was obsessed with this palette as soon as I saw it! Every single one of the shades were attractive and looked like they would flatter me! My skin tone is a fair olive, and corals look the best on me blush-wise. My theory is it’s because olive and coral both have yellow, and the coral really brightens up an olive complexion. Though I will go for a cool pink just for fun! This palette offered both warm and cool in different shades! It really is the go-to palette that I will be reaching for and take on vacation with me! If these shades seem too light for you, fear not, they have a selection of blush palettes to choose from! There will definitely be a palette for you, no matter what your skin tone is! I am linking their videos because you need to see the swatches!

I like that these palettes are all the same size, so they will store nicely together. It’s also a fine size to travel with! It’s not tiny, but I don’t downsize when I travel. But they’re not overwhelmingly huge! They offer so many products that I am very interested in! The cream blush sticks, liquid blushes and glitter lip glosses are what I am eyeing next! Their selection will cater to everyone and I can already pick out what I want to try! Be sure to pay them a visit!

I intended to make blush swatches with a blush brush, however it wasn’t working. We usually apply blush on face with moisturizer and foundation, which makes it damp and the powders can stick to it. My arm was dry and it wasn’t applying as it did on the face… and I didn’t want to misrepresent the pigment. I made heavy swatches with my finger that gives you an idea of the color. But know that normally this would be blended out. On me, every one of these shades is flattering. Not a single dud in the bunch! I think the corals are the most flattering, but I like to mix it up. You can even go wild and wear 2 or 3 shades at once. Your face is your canvas. Enjoy painting it.
In 2020, I decided to do research on my father’s side of the family and try to find out more information about our heritage. I had already taken a couple DNA tests, so I decided to look further via family trees and records. I managed to find information on my grandfather, and also found out the names of my great-grandparents and my great-great grandparents. I was able to confirm that my father is Half Mexican and not a Quarter, like he was told. (My grandfather lied to avoid discrimination.) I also managed to find a picture of my grandfather and his mother, whom my father knew, but she died when he was a toddler. He said does have memories of her and she was very sweet. Awww he has an Abuela!
I grew up with my Chinese side of the family. I actually did not know my paternal grandfather who was from Mazatlán. I was told he went back, but according to what I found he had been in San Francisco right under our noses. So what I learned about my Mexican heritage I learned from my Chinese-American mother. She did her best to teach me Spanish, made Mexican food at home, and she always chose a Mexican restaurant as my birthday dinner. I pretty much taught myself how to make Mexican cuisine at home. My mom did make it, but it was “White People Tacos” and frozen tamales. My local grocery store has a great Mexican selection, and they usually have freshly baked conchas. However, they didn’t have any in stock! I always go for the pink ones, but thought they’d be so much better if they were strawberry flavored. So I might as well try my hand at making it at home, just in time for Cinco de Mayo! My mom always wanted me to be in touch with my Mexican heritage, so I think she’d love that I am trying my hand at baking these at home. (My mom was also pretty big on baking, herself!)
The recipe I used was from Kickass Baker, however, I modified it and added a teaspoon of strawberry flavoring and more freeze dried strawberry dust into the base dough. I also sprinkled sugar over the top after scoring. I think I could have added a lot more liquid strawberry flavor, but I like my food to be a flavor explosion. The only thing is, adding too much liquid would affect the dough and how it bakes.
I always joke that I want to go to a Mexican restaurant for Chinese New Year and a Chinese restaurant for Cinco de Mayo. I’m not wrong. The appropriate restaurants are an absolute nightmare on their holidays! Forget getting good service or your order correct! So I just make the celebratory dinners at home. I bought just about everything to make just about any Mexican dish, and enough to feed any visitors who come over.
I have upcoming posts in my TikTok Made Me Buy It series, but I am going through a family tragedy at the moment. The next post may take awhile to come out depending on what happens and how much I am expected to do. Right now it’s a lot of waiting around, waiting for the next thing to happen. It’s also why this post isn’t as in-depth as I would prefer. Mother’s Day has been tough for me the past 12 years, and it’s just about to get a whole lot worse this upcoming holiday. I may or may not make an announcement on my new Instagram account if my husband approves. It is his mother after all.
