Today you get two posts in one! Wet N Wild has been rolling out these fandom collections this year. SpongeBob Squarepants came out in April/May, Saved By The Bell released in August and now Sanrio’s Little Twin Stars! I already covered Saved by The Bell when it came out. But I slacked when it came to SpongeBob., so I am including it today. This is another picture-heavy post. Do you know why I do it? Pinterest. I’m back to over 17 million impressions, so it means I am doing something right!
Wet N Wild x Little Twin Stars, $82.30 with tax
The Little Twin Stars, Kiki and Lala made their debut in 1975. 46 years later, they continue to adorn Sanrio accessories and have had a few makeup collabs! In 2018, Sugarpill came out with a small collection featuring a six-pan eyeshadow palette, two liquid lipsticks and a clear makeup bag. The Creme Shop has a couple Little Twin Stars items in their Sanrio collection. The Sanrio website has the most extensive collection because it includes collabs with other brands, including Loungefly!
I was first introduced to Little Twin Stars at a gift shop at the Asian Art Museum in Golden Gate Park. I was with 3 girls who were the daughters of my step-mom’s friend. Their names were Honor, Heart and Happy, (which is probably a translation from their Chinese names because I asked about them years later and she didn’t know who I was taking about.) We were in the gift shop picking out Sanrio items. I knew about Hello Kitty but I had never seen Little Twin Stars before. I believe it was the sisters that introduced me to Little Twin Stars. I think I got a rubber stamp set that day.
The pure joy of opening this package! It’s just the impact Sanrio goes for! You can be aged 5 or 40. Doesn’t matter!
Included in this photo are a few Little Twin Stars items I have from Sugarpill and The Creme Shop. I wouldn’t know where to find my stuff from the 80’s, but that beach towel is actually pretty recent!
Cotton Candy Clouds Eyeshadow Palette
The packaging really makes this palette exciting! The color story is already cute, but with the illustrations of the characters makes the entire palette even cuter! The color story looks like an extension of the 6-pan Sugarpill palette. With pink and blue to represent Kiki and Lala. But also the gold color that usually outlines the characters.
Because the majority is pastel colors, this is going to be a challenging palette for anyone with a deep skin tone. The glitters may be the only decently useable thing, if you like using glitter. Otherwise the eyeshadows are going to look chalky and probably unpigmented. On a fair skin tone like mine, I even find them challenging to pull off wearing the palette by itself.
The matte light browns all pretty much look the same when blended. While I typically like the inclusion of neutrals, (great to bring with you on a trip, when you’re trying to downsize what you are packing) This palette has me wanting more variations of pink, purple and blue. I’d like to have a matte pink.
The palette is scented like a lot of Sanrio products, and like the My Melody and Kuromi Collection. In that blog post, I told you about the glue I thought was perfume.
I think Wet n Wild is great with lip colors and highlighters, but not so much eyeshadows. The mattes are super powdery and it shows once the brush hits the pan!
Starry Eyes 4-piece Eyeliner Set
These colors work for Little Twin Stars. I was pleasantly surprised that the yellow was actually gold. Gold works better for me!
I can see that they’re meant to be us on the waterline as eye openers to brighten, but the eyeliners fade into my waterline. I would have liked them to be a thousand percent more pigmented. I haven’t tried the white yet and it looks the strongest.
On my lashline, I experimented by using a black liquid liner and then using the blue over it (so it’s a double-line, not drawn directly on the black) however the blue seemed to disappear. The pastel color concept is cute, but it just needed to be a lot stronger.
Oh My Star, Trio Complexion Palettes
The Blush colors admittedly look the same in the palettes, but I’ve included a couple of pictures swatched side-by-side, they’re different. I wish the Kiki one was a much cooler toned pink, just for something more different. I like the highlighters, I’ll definitely wear blue and of course the pink is easy to wear. The star glitter stayed on my face the entire day. Not that I see myself wearing glitter gel, but its very appropriate for the theme. They’re not difficult to use and they didn’t flake off.
Below are swatches, I have a heavy swatch and a swatch applied with the appropriate brush for the blush and highlighter. The glitter was just patted on.
Sweet Dreams Lip Scrub and Lip Mask
The Lip Mask isn’t going to be Laneige or Colourpop quality. But it’s a big stick of lip balm and sometimes you just need the moisture! I used to carry a huge SPF lip balm stick back in high school from Bonne Bell. This kind of reminds me of that, minus the SPF. This also has that Sanrio scent.
The lip scrub reminds me of the Body Shop scrub in a stick I used to buy in the year 2000. It’s not going to be that scrubby, but maybe normal people don’t have terribly dry lips like I do. I need an industrial strength sander.
They’re cute, they’re useful, but not the top-of-the-line.
Star Lights Lip Gloss and Star Dust Lip Mousse
These Star Lights Lip Glosses are right up my alley, I mean how can you go wrong with a transparent glitter gloss?
My Lucky Star- Kiki’s shade, a transparent lilac with glitter.
Starstruck- Lala’s shade, a transparent bubblegum pink with glitter.
I was so glad that the lip colors were not matte liquid lipsticks. I’m done tearing my lips off! It says it’s, “Infused with a blend of argan oil, avocado oil, and vitamin E to provide intense moisturization” Yes, this works for me!
Lost In a Cloud- Is Lala’s shade, a raspberry pink.
Candy Cloud 9- is Kiki ‘s shade, a grayed red-violet.
Comparing the color story with the Sugarpill Liquid Lipsticks. Personally, I think Sugarpill colors are the most true to the characters. I love the pink one so much! The aqua one is my favorite color, but not so much on my face! I still like having it! Everything else I own is that shade of aqua! You can still purchase the set on Beautylish!
Twinkle Star Glow Face Mist, $8.99
This facial mist is a lot like Mac’s Goldlite Fix +. But at a fraction of the cost! It smells like all the Sanrio stuff too.
Does it make your skin actually look ethereal? I don’t see it, but the thought of me looking like an ethereal golden angel is pretty nice. So if I am going to be hydrating my face with a mist, it might as well have pearly pigments in it!
I’d grab this because the Mac one is $30 and this is only $9! Pictured below are way too many photos of the bottle shaken and unshaken. Remember to shake it.
Star Team Sponges and Wish Upon A Cloud Case
I feel like I never want to use these sponges because they’re SO CUTE and they will never be the same once I get product on them. but…. do I just keep dry, unused sponges around? Before I got the Sponge Bob collection, I used my sponges. But now Wet N Wild is coming out with adorable, themed ones and I don’t want to ruin them!
The cloud sponge holder and brush cup are very useful! You may put away the palettes away in a drawer and never use it again, but the holders are useful items that will always be on your vanity and will look super cute! You might not use the eyeshadow or blush everyday, but the holders will definitely be used!
Star Power Makeup Brush Set and Makeup Brush Cup
Makeup Bag
Do I even need more makeup bags? Who cares? This is too freakin cute for words! It’s got star sequins, just like the brushes!
SpongeBob Squarepants x Wet n Wild Collection, $56.30 with tax
SpongeBob is just a photo showcase because 1) it’s way too late, 2) because I’ve only really used 2 items. I can’t tell you how many blog posts I’ve started but never finished! This is one of them! I had pre-ordered SpongeBob on Amazon on April 8th, and it arrived May 1. It was planned for May, but I tend to get really busy! I think I was obsessing over my Escada post. That post took over my house for a few months!
This collection is super clever. What is more appropriate than a collection of sponges and sponge accessories for SpongeBob?
My review on the two SpongeBob items I actually used:
Pineapple Sponge Case– Like the Little Twin Stars cloud sponge holder, it’s great for storing your damp sponge, and has holes for airflow so it doesn’t mold. I’ve taken it on trips, but because it’s rubber and floppy the lid doesn’t really attach securely to the base. But it was better than letting my makeup sponge sit on the counter or having a damp sponge loose in the makeup case.
Gary Sponge & Brush Soap- This is actually really good! I would buy more. I think Wet N Wild should continue making brush soap! It’s affordable and it is actually cleaning my makeup sponges! I have been using it since running out of my $45 Beauty Blender Cleanser Pro. While I think it’s economical to buy the jumbo size, the Gary soap has been great on a trip and at home. But I’ll run out soon enough because I clean my sponges daily! For $6, if I saw it on the shelf at CVS, I’d just buy them all.
Now for the items I haven’t used:
SpongeBob, Patrick Star and Squidward Makeup Sponges- How could I ruin these little masterpieces with my foundation? I know there will be a time where I am desperate to find a clean sponge. I hope the day never comes. These are way too cute! Squidward is so put out. Just like me.
The Krabby Patty Sponge & Brush Cleansing Scrub Pads- I think the person who thought of this needs a raise and a promotion! It is ridiculously clever! I’m kind of a nut for burgers too. (And crab!)
B.F.F. Hydrating + Brightening Primer Mist and F.U.N. Purifying Setting Mist-
B.F.F. has a fruity floral tropical scent which actually reminds me of Escada, maybe because Escada fragrances took over my life for awhile.
I haven’t been using these because I have so many facial mists on my vanity that I’d need to be done with two of them before I add two more! But it’s nice to know that I am stocked up for the time being. Not being with any kind of hydrating spray would be an unfortunate situation for my skin.
SpongeBob Highlighter- While this pure gold wouldn’t work as a highlighter on my complexion, it can be used as an eyeshadow or an inner corner highlight on my eyes. But I don’t dare touch this. Maybe I should… it’s pretty.
Nautical Nonsense Eyeshadow Palette- I’ve only done swatches once but never worn it. It’s kind of crazy I haven’t gotten to it yet.
Sandy Kabuki Brush and SpongeBob Flat Kabuki– I’ve kept these in the box, but honestly I can just go ahead and use them! SpongeBob is perfect for chiseling my cheeks!
The fact that Patrick Star is backwards is very on-brand for him!
Both of these Wet N Wild sets have useful items such as sponges, brushes and holders! I especially love that there are scrubbing pads to help clean your brushes and sponges!
The Wet n Wild eyeshadow formula isn’t my favorite. But if it’s cute, I’ll probably buy it. I usually do like their highlighters and lip glosses. Is the quality of the makeup sponge as good as Beauty Blender and Real Techniques? I couldn’t tell you! But they’re affordable and accessible enough for you to try for yourself and then you can tell me!
Wrapping paper backgrounds- White with gold foil stars is from Cost Plus World Market
Beige with gold foil stars may be from Cost Plus or Target (I forget)
Blue gradient is from Wrapaholic purchased from Amazon in a set.
While I have a ton of posts in the queue, I must work my the items for my online store! I am trying to make items myself instead of relying on outside companies. It’s been difficult, mostly because I cannot afford to keep stock and buy every single shirt in every color, every size, every fabric content and it’s even harder to know what will sell. So I think I will be doing pre-orders. I hope to get everything done by next week, but that would mean I don’t sleep which would be fine except for the actual human need for it. Very annoying.
