Duo-chrome is in! Have you seen my Holographic Highlighters post already? If not, I will spoil you, they’re not holographic. But you will see swatches of various duo-chromatic, metallic and otherwise shimmery highlighters grouped by color family.
Don’t let this review steer you the wrong way, I love Becca Cosmetics. I used to buy their powders and foundations in the early’s 2000’s when they first came to Sephora. I have many of their current products that I adore, and I even met Kerry Cole who is the nicest, friendliest person ever. But the review for the highlighters isn’t going to be as glowing as their Champagne Pop.
I am honestly disappointed in the Becca Light Chaser highlighters, for a few reasons.
First, I didn’t expect them to be so small. I could have checked the weight on the page on Sephora, but who even looks at that? For $34 I expected them to be the same size as the highlighters in their regular line. But now I am looking them up, and I see that the permanent ones are actually $4 more at $38. Wow, that is a lot of money! The highlighters in the permanent line are 0.28 oz and the Light Chaser highlighters are 0.23oz. Okay, that means nothing to me. Apparently 0.05 oz is a noticeable difference! You wouldn’t think it, but here it is… size difference.
In case you forgot, duo-chrome is in! All of the indie brands are doing it and they do it so well! But I should have learned my lesson from Prismatic Amethyst, which I did not find to be duo-chromatic. It’s pretty, but in no way prismatic. So when these were marketed to flash another color, I thought things have changed. But I’m not floored. Do I even see a shift? Love Luxe Beauty impressed me with Icing on The Cake, Looxi Beauty and their Auroras were enchanting. These Becca ones were like, “this is supposed to be duo-chrome? Do I need to step into direct sunlight?”
For the price I expected a whole lot more. They way they are named, I expected a strong duo-chrome. I was not impressed. I feel like I wasted my money. If they costed me a lot less, I wouldn’t feel as disappointed as I do now.
The power of social media marketing is strong. We will fall for anything that looks good in a promo shot! We will blindly buy something without waiting for swatches and reviews because they are limited edition and we do not want to miss out! Sometimes we find duds this way and end up sorely disappointed. But that’s not fair, these aren’t duds. They are pretty highlighters, they show up well on my skin. They’re not CRAZY like Anastasia Beverly Hills and Jeffree Star Cosmetics highlighters. Becca’s Light Chasers are more subtle than that and there is definitely room in my makeup collection for both subtle and crazy-in-your-face and everything in between. But looking at the promo photos, I expected more. Knowing how beautiful and strong Opal and Champagne Pop are, I just plain expected more. If they didn’t market is as duo-chrome and charged a lot less, I would have been less annoyed and I would have thought they were fine.
I only have the two highlighters because they were suggested as the best ones for a fair skin tone. I am interested in swatching the others, maybe they are more duo-chromatic and I just have the two not as noticeable colors because they’re light. The ones that flash green and teal seem like they would definitely be duo-chromatic. When I see these in store, I’ll be sure to take a look. But I don’t think I will purchase another one because of the price.
I think a third part of my disappointment is the fact that I already own similar colors and I really didn’t need to buy two whole other products. Here I have swatches of my similar highlighters.

I do not have the Pat McGrath Gold pigment to compare them with, but Looxi’s is a dupe for that one (as I have read)
You can see an obvious blue shift in Looxi Beauty’s Stiletto. In direct sunlight it looks stronger.
The Kylighter one is even more underwhelming. Becca’s Light Chaser is definitely better. But like I said, it’s not a bad highlighter.
The last photo is blurry, but you can actually see the sparkle better in that one.
My winner is Looxi Beauty. It’s only $12 and the strongest in duo-chrome and pigment. All around winner if you ask me. (And I personally like pans because I can customize a palette with whatever I want.)

Pat McGrath Labs Iridescent Pink 003 Pigment
MAC Show Gold one has a lot more sparkle and is more peachy. Looking at them in the pans, I thought they would be more similar, but they’re different.
The photo shows Iridescent Pink to be similar in both shaded photos, but it’s not in real life. The Pat McGrath is actually cooler and pinker, and the duo-chrome is very strong. (Unfortunately the set was like $80 and this was the only thing I really liked out of the bag. And I think it’s no longer available anyway.)
So I didn’t have a dupe for Rose Quartz Flashes Seashell. So I cannot pick a winner since the ones I have were different. There’s probably dupes out there.
However, the Liquid Crystal Glow Glosses have an entirely different review!
These are beautiful. I am not disappointed in these at all. I may even pick up the rest of the colors because they are so gorgeous and they deliver the duo-chrome!
I say this every time when reviewing glosses: but they are glosses, therefore, do not last long. That’s okay. If I can refresh that flash of duo-chrome and rehydrate my lips, then I will reapply! They’re not grossly gritty. You can feel the glitter if you press your lips together. But it’s not too gritty and not as bothersome as the NYX Glam gloss.
And I will need to test these over a liquid lipstick. I think it depends on the formulas of both liquid lipstick and gloss, but sometimes it will break down and smear all over your face, but then some don’t.
There’s not much to review since it’s a sheer gloss with flashes of duo-chromatic color. What you need is a video of all the swatches and see it move. I don’t have them all to show you, unfortunately.
