I want to thank my friend Liz for purchasing this My Melody & Kuromi Wet N Wild Box Collection for me for my birthday! It’s such an amazing gift and you of course know my taste! As of typing this blog post up, she is now at the hospital giving birth to her first child! I hope you and the baby love the gifts I had picked for her and that she cherishes her little skelekitty forever!
You know us girls, we’ll love Hello Kitty and Sanrio until the day we die! We are never too old for the cuteness that is Sanrio! The My Melody & Kuromi collection taps into both sides of us, sweet and mischievous! Or maybe you’re just the one, you can just get half the collection!
It took awhile to photograph and swatch everything. The tones of the photos are a bit dull and some yellow. That’s because the state is on fire and the air is smoky. I couldn’t take any outdoor sunlight photos because, I can’t go outside without dying and there’s no sun anyway.
The box was limited edition and it probably won’t be stocked again. But you can try to go to your local drugstores and try to find it. Online, they sold out super quickly, it’s not even found on Ulta.com anymore. You can purchase what’s left at Wet N Wild’s website. As of typing this, the makeup bag and both double-sided brushes are up.
These palettes have a scent that just says “Sanrio”. I can’t put my finger on what the fragrance is exactly, but I can tell you a story.
When my cousins and I were kids, our grandmother drove us to Chinatown in downtown Oakland. We went to a store that had Sanrio stuff. I bought myself a roller ball perfume. There weren’t any words indicating what the product was, but it was scented so I assumed it was that. In the car, I rolled it onto my arms and neck. Then I noticed I started peeling. It wasn’t perfume, it was glue! ???? My cousins laughed their asses off and didn’t let me live that down for awhile. The smell of these palettes remind me of my scented glue that was totally not perfume.
My Melody and Kuromi Liquid Lipstick and Lip Gloss
I haven’t worn the liquid lipsticks yet so I couldn’t say if they are drying or not. I don’t wear liquid lipstick at home and if I do go out, we have to wear a mask. So these might not get to be enjoyed until later! I have worn the glittery glosses and seriously, what’s not to like about glittery glosses? I’ll wear a gloss at home, no problem.
The bright pink My Melody liquid lipstick is right up my alley and hopefully one day I’ll wear it out. Once this pandemic ends…. which won’t be anytime soon.
My Melody Palette
Kuromi Eyeshadow Palette
My favorite color is the metallic lilac. It reminds me of Cupcake from the ABH Amrezy palette, Stormi World from Kylie Cosmetics Stomi Palette and Beam from Lime Crime’s Venus 3 Palette. They’re not the same but it has that same effect.
The metallics swatch a lot smoother and more pigmented than the matte colors and there is a lot of fall out. I expect it from Wet N Wild and other drugstore brands that they will be powdery when I dip my brush in the pan. (Tap your brush to get the excess off!) There was also fallout by the end of the day under my eyes, especially from the deep black/purple sparkle shade, the most pigmented one pictured above.
For $10 each, these palettes are a great deal for 16 eyeshadows! If you see them at your local drugstore, I’d pick it up if you want them, otherwise, it might not be there the next time you’re there.
Blush and Highlighter Palette aka “Blushlighter Palette”
The darkest blush wasn’t that pigmented which is just fine for a blush. Not only do I not need my blushes to be that pigmented, I don’t think it works for my skin tone at all, it makes me look bruised. However, it will look gorgeous on someone with a deeper skin tone! While that one color doesn’t work for me, the other three will! The more orangey blush requires a light hand for me, but medium to deep skin tones may have better results. I especially like the pink/gold highlighter with the heart embossed.
Makeup Bag
This bag is double sided, My Melody on one side and Kuromi on the other, which I personally favor because it means I don’t have to buy two. My friend didn’t like that and only wanted the black Kuromi design on both sides. Which is fair, she wants just the character she likes and in the color she wants.
Makeup Brushes
I haven’t used these makeup brushes yet so I can’t review them. I love and hate double sided brushes. I love that it’s a good value for the money and great for travel. I hate that they tend to not last long because drying brushes flat isn’t as good as turning them upside down. (Water gets in the ferule and over time it breaks down the glue holding the brush hairs.) Sometimes I wash one side only, wait for it to dry (like 2 days) and then wash the other side. It’s not a convenient way to do it, but I don’t want my brushes to fall apart. I haven’t had any Wet N Wild brand brushes fall apart yet, so there’s hope these will last.
I also love the glitter suspended in water brush handles. Wet N Wild did this with Pac Man. (And of course Lime Crime has been doing them.) They’re fun and cute on the vanity. Doing your makeup with adorable Sanrio makeup should make you smile.
Did you know Kuromi is a rabbit? I thought she was a cat.
Disclaimer: This box collection was gifted to my by a friend for my birthday. She does not work for Wet N Wild or Sanrio. I wasn’t paid to write a review. I really did roll glue onto myself.
