Continuing the Lime Crime lip product series, we have the Unicorn Lipsticks. Lime Crime is known for their unconventional shades, such as blue, green and yellow. But they also have more wearable shades, such as nudes and bright pinks. At some point, they discontinued the cream lipstick line. I don’t know why Lime Crime discontinued them, but then brought it back with new colors. However, they were all neutral and boring to my personal taste. Now it looks like most of them are no longer being sold. I preferred their bright colors anyway. Then slowly Lime Crime started re-introducing some old favorites. I wish they’d just bring it all back because there are people who missed out initially. Plus, I love Great Pink Planet so much that a backup is in order!
Packaging-
Some may think it’s juvenile, but I love it. Who cares if others think it’s tacky? There are worse things in this world. It’s super fun and cute! Your day is probably filled with others trying to bring you down. If the little things can bring you any joy, then this little holographic unicorn can make you smile! The lilac tube is pretty and looks nice on the vanity and in flat lays.
There are two variations of this packaging: The original was a rearing unicorn. For the anniversary, they used double unicorn heads.
Forumla-
The formula is thicker and drier which makes it last a little longer and is more opaque (depending on the color!) As you can see by the swatches, the lipstick doesn’t glide on smoothly, it’s got drag marks. I always wear a lip balm with every lip color I wear. If you have drier lips, I’d recommend that you do too. If you apply the lipstick over the balm, it glides on just fine and the pigmentation is way more impressive than using a MAC lipstick. I use a thick lip mask, Laniege Sleeping Lip Mask, and it applies wonderfully over it. It won’t make it last long, but moisturized lips are better than longevity, in my opinion. A popular beauty blogger noted that the formula drags, years ago when these lipsticks were new. She never worked with them again because of the reaction the owner had. If you are interested in my opinion with the controversy with Lime Crime, I have written about it on my Velvetine post.
Overall, I like wearing these instead of a liquid lipstick. My lips dry out with those! So a cream lipstick and a gloss is preferable. This has enough pigment to satisfy the need to a bold, opaque lip and comes in colors I like and are flattering to me.
Colors-
Great Pink Planet and Dollhouse are my favorites! If you can see by the photos, those two bullets are the most worn looking. Countessa Fluorescent must have gotten drowned in my lipstick drawer because it’s so clearly me! So I am putting that in my makeup bag aside to wear. Great Pink Planet and Countessa Fluorescent are two of the discontinued colors, so we can only hope they will bring them back. Doll House is one of their new colors and you should be able to buy it easily.
I think Cosmopop looks the worst on me, but yellow-orange is not my taste.
One I regret not being able to get is Clueless. It should fit in with the nudes. But I have no idea if it’s pinker, or peachier, or darker or what.
Value-
$18, a similar price as other premium brands. I like getting these on sale! I got them when they were on clearance and some on Haute Look. Looking at my old Instagram posts, I paid $8 for about half them when they were on sale back in 2015 and 2016. Currently, you can buy Lime Crime at limecrime.com, Ulta, Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom, Riley Rose and Bloomingdales.
In case you couldn’t tell I kept leaving a lipstick tube behind! Posionberry and Centerfuchsia kept getting left out of the photos! Very annoying!
