That was absolutely nauseating. But it got the job done!
Flower Knows is a cruelty-free brand founded in 2016. I covered a few items from the Unicorn and Circus collections previously. They are known for their exquisite, gorgeous, creative packaging! I was completely enamored by the Unicorn collection and the gorgeous gradients in the Circus blushes. But they really blew out out of the water for Moonlight Mermaid. They took it a step further and really expanded their choices, and the blushes are not only larger, but have three shades in one compact!
These are great not only for the beautiful makeup but as collector’s items. Each shade of eyeshadow and blush has a different color packaging and makes me want to collect every single one! With all the color combos you can make, the only thing holding me back is my budget! There is a gift set with everything in the collection (and more) that is priced at $698! It has a drinking glass that cannot be bought separately, that I would have purchased had it been sold alone. In the collection (and can also be bought individually) are the two perfumes. I am interested, but I also hate to blind buy perfumes and they’re pretty pricey to buy on a whim.
The shipping from China is pretty good, it arrives in a timely manner, has tracking and it’s packed well so that nothing was broken. My previous order has a legit drinking glass and it didn’t shatter or even crack!
I have seen some questions online if this is a trustworthy brand. While I am not a cosmetic chemist and I am not analyzing it in a lab, I can vouch for them as a regular paying customer. Using this brand’s products has not caused any skin reactions and the company is not a scam. There is too much negative press about cosmetics made in China. While yes, there are counterfeit makeup made with dangerous chemicals, there are also legitimate brands made with quality ingredients and are cruelty free. Google the brands and look for reviews by real people and see what they say. Hopefully that is how you cam across this blog! Sinophobia is very problematic and I am here to tell you there are legitimate Chinese brands that are quality and we shouldn’t be afraid of something just because it’s from China. Florasis, Place Identity are two that I know that are good and also have beautiful packaging to boot. As far as pigment quality, we have to keep in mind that beauty standards in Asia are different than say the United States and England. They’re not going to be super pigmented like Glamlite or P.Louise. The colors have a softness to them that is popular in Asia. If you look up “Douyin Makeup Looks” you will see ethereal makeup looks that have different placements than we typically do in the US. I personally like the softly pigmented blushes because I have fair skin and I think it looks better on me.
At release they had a promotion for a percentage off, plus free gifts with purchase. The free gifts were the hair clip, makeup brush and mirror. In the box were some surprise gifts such as the sticker sheets, extra powder puff and the tote bag. As of writing this, they still have a promotion for free gifts and a sale if you buy them in a bundle! It’s always nice to get more than you paid for!
Moonlight Mermaid Jewelry Blush– 04 Starmoon Tale and 05 Siren Melody, $26 each
These ombre blushes are just too gorgeous for me to even describe! But I’m going to try! The outer packaging features mermaids and an under water palace with celestial elements. Each shade of blush has a different compact color, which makes me want to collect them all! Inside is embossing so beautiful, that you don’t want to mess it up! But I bought these to use, not have in a drawer untouched. With each blush, you get 3 shades, plus more combinations when you mix them! I chose Starmoon Tale and Siren Melody, which are the two deepest shades. C-Beauty blushes tend to be very subtle. A current trend on Douyin is for blush to be very pastel. As someone is who very fair, I went for the darkest looking shades which are pictured below:
As you can see, they fit me, so you can imagine how pastel the other shades must be! But that is the trend in China. I know that this isn’t ideal for those with deeper skin tones, but there is a South Asian model on their website, and she is pulling the look off nicely! It just depends on how you use it, and how fantasy or natural you want to look.
The brush that comes in the collection has loose bristles, which won’t disturb the embossing as much as a dense brush will.
Moonlight Mermaid Jewelry Lip Gloss– GE05 Mermaids Tears, $20
The lip glosses from this brand are very emollient, and leave a bit of a stain when it wears off. They’re not a sticky formula so they aren’t very long lasting, so bring it with you to reapply! The packaging does not indicate the color inside. There are three groups, the white packaging with warm lip shades, pink with cool shades, and blue with red shades. If you want to try the Asian Beauty look, concentrate the color in the center of the lips and let it diffuse outwards. No lip liner necessary.
I chose the coolest shade they offered, and it’s still pretty warm. Mine is #5 Mermaid’s Tears.
Moonlight Mermaid Five-Color Jewelry Eyeshadow Palette- Mermaid’s Dream, $35
It may not be the most pigmented, but that is the soft style of Asian Beauty. The current trend of C-Beauty is to have a super sparkly middle of the lid and just under the eye. With this palette, I do like to use the Morphe x Pony Park Constellation Sky Artistry Palette to help out deepening and rounding out the look. It’s a cute palette but hard for me to do a look with just the five shades.
Moonlight Mermaid Setting Powder– Fair Beige, $35
There are only two shades of the pressed face powder. Which I know is an issue! Beauty standards in China and completely different than the United States. I’d like to think we celebrate all colors and skin tones (and not just tan.) In China, it seems like they may prefer fairer skin stones. See this article for more info on beauty in China.
As far as the what I chose, normally I would choose the lightest, but I liked the blue compact more and it turns out it works with my skin tone just fine. Inside there is a compartment for the included powder puff.
Moonlight Mermaid Hand Mirror– Pink, $25
The mirror was a free gift with purchase which worked out well for me since I was going to buy one anyway! It was difficult to choose the color because all of them are so pretty!
This was a good way to end AAPI month! I am here to support my Asian brothers and sisters. I am Half-Chinese (and Mexican and White) but I always celebrate my heritage(s). It’s also Mental Health Awareness month, which is kinda fitting because I actually got my trauma from that side of the family. Hahaha! Other AAPI folks know what I mean!!!!
Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored. I bought everything on my own. This purchase came with free gifts with purchase that was available to every customer.
