This is a 3-part series of Lime Crime lip products! I am starting with the Velvetine Lipsticks, then the Unicorn Liquid Lipsticks and finally the Diamond Crushers. The product really for me is the Wet Cherry line, but I only have one and it’s running low. I live for that moisturizing glossy formula! Hey friends, a good gift idea! haha!
I’m not sure how I got so many Velvetines, but I assure you I wouldn’t have gotten the lot of them if it wasn’t discounted! It was probably a sale, some of them are mini’s from sets, and I know for sure that at least three are gifts with purchase because I would never have chosen the color otherwise.
I feel like I have too many to review each color individually! I don’t get paid for this, you know! But I have tried to section off some of the swatches with like-colors or finishes.
As I mentioned in my Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick post, liquid lipsticks are opaque and not as forgiving. Therefore they will look different on people of different skin tones. Mine is an NC15, which is a very light yellow-based skin tone. Anyone else with the same skin tone, might benefit from this post. I know it would have helped save me money had I known most colors would look brown on me. (I know it’s trendy, but I don’t like it on me.)
Formula-
Not as drying as other liquid lipsticks, which is probably why I have obtained so many of them. My lips will still dry out, it’s just how it is. But it’s not as terrible as other formulas, which make me want to take it off right away and end up with peeling lips the next day.
Favorites-
I seem to favor the metallic colors, my two favorites are Pink Champagne and Passionfruit. They’re also the two that swatched the worst. Pink Champagne has been used so much it’s drying out. Please Lime Crime, make Pink Champagne full sized! They asked if they should on their Instagram, but I guess it wasn’t popular enough. Passionfruit has also been used a lot, but somehow is more watery. I don’t know why that is. It’s also the newest, but I don’t know if that’s why. Maybe I needed to shake it? It’s too late now. I always get asked what I am wearing when I wear Passionfruit. I am wearing it in the last three of my photos on my About page.
I am also a huge fan of Utopia and Rave. I like bright purple on me, I should probably wear something else.
Value-
These retail for $20, a typical price for liquid lipsticks. Only $2 more than Jeffree’s Velour Liquid Lipsticks. It’s not a terrible price, but you probably wouldn’t collect so many of them unless you get a huge discount. Believe me, I did not pay $20 for the majority of these! And I have collected them over the years. I tend to get them when they’re on sale. $20 is a lot, especially when you have as many as I do! As you can see, some of these are mini so they came in sets. Look for them on HauteLook, they often go on flash sale.
With the lighter metallics, I like pairing them with mattes and dab Blondie, Happi or Mercury in the center of the lip. Pink Champagne gets worn often by itself. It’s just my favorite!
These swatches were taken when I thought I was done, but then I realized that I was missing a few. A few turned out to be 12! But I took the time to label these images, so here you go:
I wanted to compare color families with the mattes. The left arm (which is very pink and stained from all the swatching I have done) has the various pink tones. My right arm has the nude/neutrals. The Girls Girls Girls shades aren’t my type, but they were mini’s included in a set. Some of these could benefit from Drug Lord. Errrr you know what I mean! Jeffree’s white liquid lipstick to mix in!
Please note that some of these colors are discontinued and you may not be able to get one you want.
I am extremely aware of the controversy of every brand I purchase from. I have read the history, watched videos and formed my own opinion. I have definitely boycotted restaurants, stores and even people I know in real life. They would have to do me dirty in order for me to nix them from my life. I have not boycotted any cosmetic brands because I’m not the type of person to boycott makeup, unless it was dangerous!
Here’s the thing: Everyone is an asshole, you just have to choose your favorite kind. If I boycotted every company because the CEO was an asshole, I’d have to make my own stuff from scratch. Even then I couldn’t even use it because I’m an asshole that will eventually offend myself in some way!
I’ve kept up with all the controversy with Lime Crime. And I totally understand why some bloggers won’t touch the brand as many have had bad experiences. I probably won’t work with them, but I will buy their stuff, review and wear them. I have no issues with Xenia/Doe. I know other people do, but I have no negative feelings for her. Every controversy LC was involved in could have been handled differently and not all of that falls on her. There were definitely issues that needed to be handled more professionally by the whole company. As of 2018, Lime Crime has a new CEO. Doe has stepped down, but is still on the board. That is a concern for some. There was one employee that was very troublesome for the influencers they were working with, and they have since been let go. Make your own decisions, your reasons are probably valid.
There is an indie brand where the owner was rude to me in person. It was at a makeup trade show. I had something missing in my bag that I paid for so I talked to someone at the booth. I had no idea who she was or that she was the owner and popular on social media. I did not like the snippy way she talked to me. It left me in a sour mood the rest of the day. However, I have bought more of her products anyway because they were great quality and offered more colors that I liked. Yes, she got my money. But I’m okay with that because I got cool lip colors that I actually like to wear. It reminds me of her bad attitude when I see them in my drawer, but I still like the colors and the quality and they get worn. Oh well. It’s the kind of person I am. I won’t hold it against lipstick because their creator was rude to me. You won’t see me make a blog post about that brand though!
In the end, form your own opinion and buy whatever you want. It’s nobody’s business what you do with your own money.
Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored, I chose to make this post all on my own. I bought every single one of these liquid lipsticks myself. I did post referral links to Lime Crime and HauteLook. Lime Crime gives you 20% your first purchase, and also rewards me with 20% off. The HauteLook referral gives me money back if you sign up and make a purchase.
