Sweet N Low, an exhibition presented by the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek, CA in 2017.
This gallery show was last summer. Though the show may be over and you won’t be able to see it in person anymore, does art really expire? Of course not! Even though I started this post a year ago and got busy with my clothing line, I wanted to post this because art is my life and you should see these amazing pieces and maybe you will find an artist who inspires you!
So I’m an artist. Not a makeup artist. But someone who draws and paints. Therefore, I need to keep up with art galleries and their call for entries! I would have painted the perfect pieces for this show! Well, I cannot go back in time, but can still paint. Right now, I can appreciate what the artists did. There are pieces here that I really love and I have followed them on social media to keep up with their new work.

From kitsch and Margaret Keane’s Big Eyes, to Japanese anime and contemporary Pop Art, we’re unleashing the roly-poly, goofily-gamboling, saccharine-honeyed creatures on this earth and beyond!  Sweet n Low is part invitational and part juried exhibition, juried by Evan Pricco of Juxtapoz magazine and Antler Gallery, Portland, OR.
Sweet N Low features artwork that is creepy cute. I didn’t find that every piece was creepy cute, but every artist has their own vision of what they feel fits the theme. Everyone is different and everyone expresses themselves differently and that is the beauty of art.
Walking through the gallery I felt inspired to start painting again. I felt like this was the kind of art I used to do. Maybe after the chaos of my business has died down I can finally set up my easel and start painting again. And then my invitations to gallery shows won’t get lost in the mail! ha!
If you choose to Pin this or re-post, please give credit to the artist. They spent so many hours laboring over their work and it’s important to but their name beside their hard work. I could have Photoshopped their name in, but I thought it would have taken away from the piece if I had done so. Also there is that possibility that I could make a typo.
Also I apologize if you were in the show and your art isn’t featured on my blog. I tried to photograph every single piece, but it’s possible that I missed some. With other people coming into the gallery, I had to be quick. I also tried finding the website for every artist, and I didn’t find them all.
I hope you, the reader, appreciates this gallery post! It was utterly painful to do! I had to match every piece to the artist and try to list the title. Then finding the websites and making sure it was the correct person. Though I’d like to cover more gallery art and exhibits. It’s time consuming. I actually stopped last summer because it was too much tedious work with absolutely no pay to be had for doing it!
I know my photographs are terrible. They always are. It’s because I’m in a hurry trying to get out of people’s way. Believe me, if I could have organized the online gallery in this post how I wanted, it would have been much easier to navigate. But this is what the plugin offers, and I need to get this up so I can start my other posts. (Also, I’m in actual pain from doing this!)
And for a disclaimer: The artist’s work in no way reflects the views and opinions of myself. I cannot be held responsible if anyone gets offended by certain artworks. For an artist’s statement, you will have to visit each individual artist’s website or social media to understand the background of their piece. I will not be able to explain any of these works to anyone because I am not the artist for any of these pieces. That should be obvious, but unfortunately I have to write that because some people get confused.
I have given artist credit to as many works as possible. I tried to find their websites and/or social media so you can find them. Sometimes I was not able to find every single one and I apologize to the artist if they were not given proper credit or if I mistyped their name. As a professional artist myself, I understand the importance of giving proper credit. This is why there are no watermarks on these photos. They are not mine to claim.
I wish this online gallery is simpler to navigate. It would be better if it had arrows so you don’t have to press the back button. If anyone thought I knew how to code, they made a huge mistake. Please don’t ask me to do your website. I only know how to draw.
However, the actual gallery, The Bedford Gallery was a great space and the admission was fair. I also bought the booklet to go with this show to make this post easier for me to write. This show was right up my alley in terms of my taste in art! I enjoyed my time here. I hope that one day I will get to show my paintings here!
